Parc de Patrice Dominguez, Les Contamines

Just 10 minutes from St Gervais and walking distance from the centre of Les Contamines.

Just 10 minutes from St Gervais and walking distance from the centre of Les Contamines you’ll find the Parc de Loisirs , le Parc Patrice Dominguez, Les Contamines. It’s packed with great things to do on a family day out and more seems to be added every year that we go.

Let’s start with the main attractions there. With a zip wire and climbing net that spans high above the entrance to the park you can’t help but notice the tree top adventure (parcours d’aventure) course. There’s zip wires (one over the lake), huge nets to climb across, rope bridges and much more besides, and it’s all above the park, high up in the trees. It’s fantastic fun and super safe as you’ll be trained how to clip on and off before you go by qualified instructors. The park is also home to a lovely swimming lake which boasts large sandy beaches and there’s plenty of room to relax there too. A second lake has pedalos and rowing boats for hire.

Further into the park you’ll find the Duchere climbing area. With everything from grade 3 up to 7,it’s a large natural set of crags and makes for some superb climbing. Being bolted it’s super safe and free to access if you have your own ropes, harnesses and quick draws. If you’d like to learn to climb then courses are available if you fancy an afternoons climbing and you’ve not done it before.

The park is also home to a great tennis club, with 8 courts and tuition available. They also have the one of the WTA tournaments there, with $10 000 prize money during July each year.

Next to the tennis courts is the parks restaurant selling the usual fare, but well worth a try are their waffles (gaufres). Superb and good value for money!

There’s also a playground area for younger children, and this year they have a slack line area (it’s like tightrope walking, but instead of a rope it’s a flat piece of material about 3cm wide) where you can learn to slack line, and a circus area where instructors are teaching circus skills.

There are also donkey rides, pony rides, archery, mini golf, trampolines, bouncy castles, access to the biathlon shooting range and there was even a ski jumping competition in early August which was surprising to see. Oh, and it's worth mentioning the golf driving range too!
